Frequently asked questions

Short answers to the questions Canadian travellers ask us most about all-inclusive vacations.

Booking

Does Vacations Today charge a planning fee?

No fee for standard vacation packages. Like most travel agencies in Canada, we are paid a commission by the tour operator.

Is it cheaper to book with a travel agent?

For vacation packages, the price is usually the same as booking direct. The difference is that you have an advisor to help you choose and to call if something changes.

How early should I book for March Break?

Book 4 to 6 months ahead. March Break is one of the busiest and most expensive weeks of the year for Canadian families.

What does all-inclusive actually include?

Usually your flight, airport transfers, room, meals, drinks and non-motorized activities. See our full list on the all-inclusive vacations page.

Travel documents

Do Canadians need a passport for Mexico, the Dominican Republic and Aruba?

Yes. Every traveller, including babies, needs a valid passport. Some destinations also require an online entry form, so check the Government of Canada travel advice for your destination.

Do I need travel insurance?

We strongly recommend it. Provincial health plans cover very little outside Canada. Look for emergency medical coverage plus trip cancellation and interruption.

What do I need when travelling with children?

Each child needs their own passport. If a child travels without both parents, carry a signed consent letter. Details are on our family vacations page.

At the resort

Are tips included at all-inclusive resorts?

Tips are usually included, but many guests leave a few US dollars for bartenders, servers and housekeeping.

Is the tap water safe to drink?

At most resorts, drinking water is purified and bottled water is provided. Do not drink tap water unless the resort confirms it is safe.

What happens if a hurricane is forecast during my trip?

Tour operators often offer changes when a named storm threatens a destination, and resorts have storm plans. Insurance with trip interruption coverage protects you if plans change.
